How to cook STEAKHOUSE POTATO GRATIN

If you’re a fan of creamy, cheesy, and utterly delicious side dishes, then this Steakhouse Potato Gratin is for you! This dish is the perfect accompaniment to any main course, and it’s sure to be a hit with your friends and family. Here’s how to make this mouth-watering gratin:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, and thyme. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat and cook for a few more minutes until the garlic is fragrant. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Layer the potatoes: Arrange half of the potato slices in an even layer in the greased baking dish. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the Gruyère and cheddar cheeses.
  4. Repeat the layers: Add another layer of the remaining potato slices on top. Pour the rest of the cream mixture over the potatoes and top with the remaining cheeses. Dot with small pieces of butter for added richness.
  5. Bake to perfection: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly and the potatoes are tender.
  6. Let it rest: Once done, remove the gratin from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving. This will help the flavors meld together and make it easier to cut into servings.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, you can add a layer of caramelized onions or crispy bacon between the potato layers.
  • Use a mandoline slicer for even and thin potato slices, ensuring they cook uniformly.

Enjoy this decadent Steakhouse Potato Gratin with your favorite steak, roasted chicken, or even on its own as a hearty vegetarian main dish. Your guests will be coming back for seconds, guaranteed!
