Patty Melt

If you’re a fan of sandwiches and burgers, the Patty Melt is a must-try treat that combines the best of both worlds. This classic American favorite is a delightful blend of juicy beef, melty cheese, and crispy, buttery bread. Perfect for lunch, dinner, or even a hearty snack, the Patty Melt is sure to satisfy your cravings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 8 slices of rye bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Onions: In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook the Patties: Form the ground beef into 4 patties, each roughly the same size as the slices of bread. Season the patties with salt and pepper. In the same skillet, cook the patties over medium-high heat until they are cooked to your desired level of doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Assemble the Sandwiches: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on the unbuttered side of 4 slices of bread, followed by a cooked beef patty, caramelized onions, a slice of cheddar cheese, and another slice of bread, buttered side up.
  4. Grill the Sandwiches: Heat the skillet over medium heat and cook the assembled sandwiches until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Slice each sandwich in half and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade Patty Melts with a side of fries, a pickle, or your favorite dipping sauce.

The Patty Melt is a timeless classic that never fails to please. Its combination of savory beef, sweet caramelized onions, and gooey melted cheese, all encased in perfectly toasted bread, is simply irresistible.
